Chelsea have submitted a bid for Mike Maignan worth €15m as the club look to sign the goalkeeper before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Maignan has informed Milan of his desire to move to the Premier League, though Chelsea are unwilling to meet the Italian side’s asking price of around €30m (£25.2m).
The France international has just 12 months to run on his contract and Milan risk losing Maignan on a free transfer next summer if an extension is not agreed.
The Rossoneri failed to qualify for European football for next season and appear set for an exodus of talent. A deal for Tijjani Reijnders to join Manchester City has already been agreed, while Rafael Leao has expressed his interest in leaving the San Siro.
Maignan has made clear his desire to join Chelsea, who want a deal done before Tuesday’s deadline for the mini-window. Transfers must be completed before this deadline to register players for the group stage of this summer’s Club World Cup. Personal terms have already been agreed.
Chelsea’s interest in Maignan comes despite a depth of goalkeepers in West London. Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to sign for Arsenal in a £5m deal, while the future of Djordje Petrovic is to be decided after an impressive loan at Strasbourg. Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen also remain among Enzo Mareca’s senior options.
Maignan has made 163 appearances for Milan since arriving from Lille in 2021 and won the Serie A title in his debut campaign with the club. The 29-year-old has twice been named as Serie A’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
