Chelsea set to ignore recent goals and assists and let £25m option leave after one year

Chelsea’s summer plans are already coming together. The Blues still don’t know if they’ll be in the Champions League or not, but some things can move ahead even before that’s certain.

TeamTalk claim that one decision that has already been made is that to send Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United. It will cost us £5m to terminate his loan, but despite some recent goals and assists it seems the decision has been made to cut our losses.

Leverkusen interest may encourage Chelsea to cut losses on Sancho

We reported yesterday on the whispers that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in Sancho, and perhaps that’s changed the balance of the equation. We have Estevao Willian arriving in the summer, plus we’re being linked with a host of other left wing options.

Would it makes sense to add them AND keep Sancho? Maybe not. The £5m penalty just effectively becomes a loan fee for the season, and allows us to try and find someone better for the £20m difference between the fixed purchase price and the penalty clause.

Having said that, at times it’s looked pretty certain that Sancho would be joining us. Is all this just wishful thinking from fans that don’t fancy him long term?

Sancho still looks most likely to stick around

We’re still cautious in believing any story which claims Sancho is going to go – we suspect that the sporting directors and Enzo Maresca are bigger fans of him than most fans are, and given the fixed purchase price is only £25m, it would take a lot for us to not want to bring him in.

Until we hear something concrete from the likes of David Ornstein or Fabrizio Romano, we remain pretty convinced he’s going to be coming in permanently.
