Chelsea are now directly involved in a battle to sign a new winger this summer, and it’s not Jamie Gittens of Dortmund.
There is a lot going on this week in the aftermath of the first summer transfer window closing on Tuesday night ahead of the Club World Cup.
Chelsea failed to sign Mike Maignan and Jamie Gittens after being in talks, but there are other situations ongoing right now, such as the future of Trevoh Chalobah, who is wanted by Napoli this summer.
There was also a report out earlier in the week detailing the stats that prove Chelsea should have, and still can, sign Maignan from AC Milan this summer simply because he’s a big upgrade.
Renato Veiga has also been left disappointed after not being included in Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad for this summer.
He was apparently expecting to be included after winning the Nations League with Portugal at the weekend, but he was omitted when the squad was announced yesterday.

Arsenal and Chelsea are to battle with and Bayern Munich for Athletic Club Bilbao star Nico Williams this summer, according to Thursday’s edition of AS.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Bayern in particular are among the clubs that have ‘courted [him] in a special way’.
I’d be surprised if this one goes any further for Chelsea at least, because he has high wage demands and we know that Chelsea do not wish to pay high wages for players anymore.
He also has a €58m release clause, but the report says this is ‘affordable’, considering the 22-year-old’s status.
Don’t see much in this one.
