Chelsea have joined Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid and Juventus in the race to sign Feyenoord centre-back David Hancko in January.

Hancko has emerged as one of the Eredivisie’s best defenders at Feyenoord and has been heavily linked with an exit in the January transfer window. The Slovakian centre-back is valued at around €35m in Rotterdam and Chelsea are considering a bid next month.

The Blues are well-stocked in central defence but uncertainty surrounding the future of Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana’s injury record have led to interest in Hancko.

TeamTalk are reporting Spurs are also keen on a deal as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster a depleted defence. The North Londoners are currently without Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies through injury. Spurs have shipped nine goals in their last two games, including a 6-3 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray has deputised at centre-back in recent weeks.

If people can’t see the obvious I‘m not going to point it out. Make of it what you want, yes we’re conceding goals,” Postecoglou said after the Liverpool loss.

“If you want to discount the fact we’re missing a goalkeeper, two centre-backs and left-back and that hasn’t coincided with what we’re doing… I don’t know what to say anymore. I think people make up their mind in their own way. They either think what I’m doing is good or bad, and that’s fine.

“It’s fairly significant, if you took out Liverpool’s goalkeeper, two centre-backs and a left-back – or any team other than Liverpool, they’d find it tough going as well.”

Hancko, who can also operate at left-back, last week denied rumours that he has been negotiating a transfer to Juventus.

“I am not happy with the fake news that is circulating about my contacts with Juventus and about an agreement that I have already reached with them. There is nothing true,” Hancko said in an interview with Dutch newspaper AD Sportwereld.

“Juventus may be interested but we have never spoken. I told my teammates that it is all false, I have no idea where these rumours come from.”
