In a recent report, Sport revealed that Chelsea have tabled a bid for Barcelona playmaker Fermin Lopez this summer. It has been mentioned that the Blues have made a £50m offer to land the Spanish talent in this transfer period.

The 22-year-old was a good contributor for the Catalan outfit last season when he produced a string of impressive performances for them in La Liga. Lopez found the back of the net eight times and picked up ten assists in 46 appearances for Barca in the previous campaign across various competitions.

The Spanish talent was a consistent performer in the final third after he averaged 2.95 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He kept 36.6% of his shots on target. Lopez was even careful when distributing possession, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 81.8% in the Spanish first division (stats via fbref.com).

Lopez’s current contract at the Catalan club will run out in the summer of 2029. Hence, the Blues would have to make a big offer if they want to snap him up in this transfer window.

Should Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca Bring Lopez On Board?

Lopez is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some decent runs with it in and around the opposition’s penalty area. He can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to create some meaningful openings for his teammates on the offensive end of the pitch.

The Spanish sensation can contribute by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team. He is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or as a left-sided wide player if needed.

Lopez would add more firepower to Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s frontline. He is good enough to nail down a regular first-team spot at Stamford Bridge this season.

At 22, Lopez has got the potential to be a future star in English football. He will also help the Premier League giants challenge for some major honours over the next decade. Therefore, it is a no-brainer for Chelsea to try and bring him on board before the end of this transfer window.
