Chelsea “could bank a nice profit” after one year with defender

In the light of Chelsea’s continued interest in signing an elite centre back this summer, we recently wrote up a piece about the club’s 9 central defensive options and where they might end up after the summer.
Tom Coley has now done the same for Football.London, and it’s interesting to see where his conclusions have ended up being the same, or different.

When it comes to Tosin Adarabioyo, we had him down as “the second most secure” of the defenders on the books: “he’s a little older than the other options, brings lots of experience and a good dressing room presence, he’s happy not being first choice in the league and will likely remain as a useful 3rd or 4th choice option.”
But Coley sees things a little differently: while “he is a Conference League leader” and “a loud voice for his peers,” there’s always the chance we try to move him on, especially given we signed him on a free. “If circumstances chance and [Trevoh] Chalobah was to stay, Chelsea could bank a nice profit on Adarabioyo should an offer come in. Never say never.”
We very much agree with that too. While Adarabioyo is filling an important role right now as an older player with a little more experience, we can very much see the club jumping at the chance to flip him for an easy profit.
They might then promote from within, keeping someone like Chalobah or Axel Disasi, or try the same trick again, finding a good player on a free transfer or a cheap deal to bring in for a year or two before selling them.
