Chelsea are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel as they search for a reliable shot stopper ahead of next season.
Foot Mercato claims the Swiss international is attracting interest from the London club as Enzo Maresca looks to fix their problems in goal.
The 27-year-old could leave Dortmund if a suitable offer arrives, with the club open to discussions this summer.
Kobel has been with Dortmund for four years and was part of the team that reached the Champions League final last season, where they lost to Real Madrid.
Chelsea have rotated between Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen this season, but neither has impressed.
Supporters have criticised Sanchez for costly errors, while Jorgensen failed to show enough quality during his brief spell in goal.
Newcastle United are also in the race to sign Kobel.
The Magpies have used Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka this season but want to add quality ahead of a potential Champions League return.
Chelsea and Newcastle have contacted Kobel’s camp. Transfermarkt values the Swiss international at around £34 million, making him an affordable option.
Kobel’s agent will visit London soon to discuss potential moves with Premier League clubs.
The Champions League could be a decisive factor in the race to sign Kobel. Chelsea and Newcastle are in contention to qualify for UEFA’s top club competition.
If one of them secures a place, their chances of signing Kobel would be boosted.
