Chelsea are reportedly about to spend over £10m on signing yet another teenager whilst ignoring what they need right now in the squad.
Chelsea are currently sixth place in the Premier League and have won just one game in their last seven league matches played.
They are in serious danger of dropping out of the Champions League challenge this season and dipping into more of a mid-table scrap unless they can re-discover some form.
There is no doubt at all in my mind that the addition of a new proven striker this window and added midfield cover, will do wonders to help them achieve their goals of reaching Champions League football next season. They need it, I don’t care what anyone says. They need the financial rewards it brings more than anything else. I mean, they’re still playing without a front of shirt sponsors for gods sake!
But fear not, they’re about to sign another 16-year-old to continue the stockpiling of youth talent to spin a profit on one day.
Denner in action for Corinthians
According to Globo in Brazil, Corinthians are in advanced negotiations to sell 16-year-old full-back Denner to Chelsea for £10.5 million with bonuses.
A meeting on Wednesday could seal the deal. If it goes through, Denner will only be able to play for Chelsea after he turns 18, in February 2026. It will be £6.7 million upfront and a further £3.8 million in add-ons.
I’m sure he’s a very talented player for the future, but I assure you, not one single Chelsea fan is going to be getting excited about this when there are dire needs in the squad that needs addressing here and now in the final days of the transfer window.
