Cesena 2-0 Milan Primavera: Lacklustre performance results in another defeat | OneFootball

Milan Primavera suffered another big blow in their play-off hopes as they fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat away against Cesena on Saturday afternoon.

Federico Guidi’s side lost 2-1 to Sampdoria on Monday which was certainly a big blow, and it was not the ideal way to follow up beating the league-leaders Roma. It left them seventh in the league, and in need of a return to form.

That did not come against the league’s 15th-placed side Cesena, and a poor first half was ultimately to blame. Milan nearly took the lead through Filippo Scotti after 50 seconds, but that would be as good as it got as the home side grew into the game.

In the 29th minute, a counter-attack by Cesena saw Giovannini unleash a first-time curling shot that gave Alessandro Longoni not chance of a save in the Milan goal.

In added time at the end of the first half they doubled their lead, and it was an own-goal. Another cross from the wing in transition was turned into the net by Nissen, making it 2-0.

Now the focus becomes the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday against Cagliari, with the Rossoneri sixth on 51 points and now 13 points off top spot.
