Celtic’s attacking stats were excellent but can be even better

Our stats in an attacking sense were good last season, they can be even better next season…

Much to the delight of the supporters, the club have been making early moves in the transfer market with two players close to making the move to Glasgow in Callum Osmand and Benjamin Nygren, with the likes of Michel – Ange Balikwisha also being actively pursued.

These players are all creative attacking types, and that is certainly an area that is in great need of strengthening.

It might seem strange to state that, considering we registered a staggering 159 goals in 57 games across all competitions last season. That is a fantastic record but we could have further increased that tally had we not been so wasteful of spurning great opportunities, which we did on many occasions.

It sounds entitled I know, but sometimes that indecision in the box cost us dearly such as the Scottish cup final defeat to Aberdeen which cost us the treble.

The likes of Nicolas Kuhn, Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah were off the pace that day as was the rest of the team, and the only available options available to Brendan to turn to were Johnny Kenny, Yang and James Forrest, who frustratingly picked up an injury before he could make an impact at Hampden.

Next season that could be so much different and we could have the likes of Benjamin Nygren, Michel – Ange Balikwisha and Callum Osmand to turn to and also hopefully sooner than later Jota, which will make a massive difference in giving us much needed stronger strength and depth at the business end of the park.

The right additions will only make us an even stronger force in front of goal, which is a totally frightening prospect for the rest of the league.

Another area of crucial importance this summer is for Celtic to start moving on players who the manager does not see as part of his plans for the new season. In many ways the outgoings are as important as the new arrivals with the hope being that we can keep top performers like Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Nicolas Kuhn.
