One of the biggest rivalries in football is between Scottish Premiership clubs Celtic and Rangers, and we can reveal their head-to-head record as well as some amazing history around the fixture.
The two teams have dominated Scottish football for decades, and year-on-year, trying to pick who will come out on top is practically impossible.
Rangers and Celtic used to be ever-present in the Champions League, but lately, this has changed, and we have only ever seen one team get to the group stages and then not make it any further.
The rivalry is a huge reason why so many love football, and it is no doubt the biggest game of the season in Scottish football, so let's have a look at why it became such a famous derby across the globe.

The two Scottish sides have had many great players, including Henrik Larsson, Kenny Daglish, Ally McCoist, Brian Laudrup and Paul Gascoigne.
They have been facing each other on the pitch since the 1800s, and this has made the Old Firm derby exhilarating year after year.

This is one of few rivalries which is not just due to their battles on the pitch or even due to the fact that they are both from Glasgow.
This derby became so big due to the fact that Rangers supporters are Protestant while Celtic fans support the Catholic Church. There is quite a strict religious division between the two clubs, and this has just added more fuel to the fire historically.
For those who do not know, the name for the match between these two teams is the 'Old Firm Derby', and the match has had this name since the early 20th century.
Football fans are treated to this derby more than probably expected, as SPFL teams play each other three times a season.
According to Wikipedia, the two sides have managed to meet 432 times in all major competitions in their history, and this makes sense due to the fact they first played against each other in the late 1800s. This includes the Scottish Premiership, as well as the Scottish cups.

Glasgow Rangers currently hold the bragging rights when it comes to the most wins in the Old Firm Derby. Currently, Rangers have managed to win 168 matches, whilst Celtic have won 162 matches. There have been 102 draws.
As you can see, it is so close between the two sides, so it wouldn't be massively surprising to see Celtic claim bragging rights in the near future.
The easiest way to decide who has been the most successful out of the two sides is to see who has won the most trophies out of Rangers and Celtic.
Celtic have managed to pick up 113 trophies throughout their history in all competitions, whilst Rangers have managed 118 trophies. Again it is very tight between the two clubs, and no doubt we will see them stay this close in regards to trophies won for many years.

The footballer who has scored the most goals in the Old Firm Derby is Ally McCoist. The striker played for both Rangers and Scotland during his career, and now can be heard as a co-pundit on a lot of big games.
McCoist managed 55 goals in matches between Rangers and Celtic, and so far, no player has managed to beat this.
Celtic fans will probably mention this game every time the Old Firm Derby comes back around as they hold bragging rights for the biggest win in this match, and it was a thrashing.
We have to go back to 1957 to find when this match happened as Celtic beat Rangers 7-1, and it was also in the Scottish League Cup final.
