With Celtic struggling to sell tickets to their own fans, the Glasgow club have now approached Newcastle United and offered NUFC fans an extra allocation.
Newcastle United fans having very quickly snapped up the original 7,200 ticket allocation.
Those tickets all sold out almost six weeks ago.
Whilst the Newcastle United allocation sold out so quickly, Celtic struggling to sell due to their fans asked to pay £25 for the match.
Pretty standard pricing for friendlies these days, with Newcastle United charging £25 for adults when Atletico Madrid visit St James’ Park in August, that game already a 52,000 sell out.
However, Celtic fans thinking the £25 ticket price is far too much, in part, because their season ticket holders used to get at least one free friendly match as part of their season ticket.
It appears things haven’t improved much on the sales front up in Glasgow, so with 23 days to go until the friendly, Celtic getting in touch with Newcastle United to try and help fill Celtic Park, by giving United fans this bonus allocation.
Newcastle United haven’t announced how many extra tickets. United could easily sell twice as many, as away games are impossible to get tickets for these days, unless you are a season ticket holder. Even for friendlies!
It would be great to see enough tickets supplied by Celtic so that at last some Newcastle United members might get the very rare chance of being able to get to an away game, albeit a friendly.
