Celtic enjoyed a memorable run in the Champions League this season. They made it past the opening round of the competition for the first time in over a decade. There were some great wins in the first phase, with the one against RB Leipzig standing over the rest. But ultimately, the Hoops could not find a way past Bayern Munich in the knockout phase of the competition.

Celtic did give a good account of themselves though. They lost the first leg 2-1 at Parkhead and were minutes away from winning 1-0 at Allianz Arena over 90 minutes and taking the game into extra-time.

Unfortunately, that did not happen as Alphonso Davies scored a late equaliser for the hosts. Celtic did not have enough time to give a reply and the tie ended 3-2 in favour of the Bavarian side.

Celtic earned a lot of praise for their performance though. But it was not all sunshine and rainbows on the day either.

As reported by BBC, Rodgers has been given a suspended one-match touchline ban by UEFA after being deemed to have delayed play in the Champions League last-16 visit to Bayern Munich. It will be imposed if the Northern Irish manager is held responsible for the same thing over the course of the next year in European competition. On the other hand, Celtic were fined €10,000 (£8,340) for the incident.

It is safe to say that Celtic have had their fair share of troubles in recent years, when it comes to European competitions. They will be looking to avoid any further ones in the future.

The club's aim has to be to get further in the competition next season, having tasted what it takes to get past the group phase. Hopefully, they will build on this success.
