Cardiff City clinched their third consecutive Género Adran Premier title on Sunday with a commanding 3-1 victory over The New Saints.
The Bluebirds secured the championship with two matches to spare, sitting seven points clear at the top of the table. Their latest triumph continues a dominant run in the league, reaffirming their status as the team to beat.
Despite a scoreless first half with Ffion Price having a penalty saved, Eliza Collie and Mackenzie Olden found the back of the net at the start of the second half. The New Saints managed to pull a goal back in the 80th minute. However, a goal from Fiona Barry made it 3-1 and solidified Cardiff’s win with three minutes to go.
It wasn’t just Sunday’s win that secured the championship. Last week, Cardiff staged a remarkable comeback against The New Saints, overturning a 2-0 deficit in the 86th minute to win 3-2. That outstanding turnaround set the stage for their ultimate achievement this weekend.
Last week’s fixture is a testament to how Cardiff have played all season. It also illustrates their form over the last couple of campaigns, dominating the league with confidence and style. However, despite this weekend’s celebrations, the season is not quite finished yet.
Next weekend entails a crucial away trip for Cardiff City to Wrexham on Saturday, April 6. A home match against Briton Ferry Llansawel will follow on April 13.
With the pressure of these matches now behind them, the Bluebirds can focus on building upon the remarkable success they’ve already achieved.
After having a fantastic season, this title is thoroughly deserved by Cardiff City. They can now relax and enjoy their last two matches, knowing their hard work has paid off.
