Former Milan coach Fabio Capello has no doubt that Inter are capable of ‘making life difficult’ for their opponents in Monday’s Supercoppa Italiana final in Riyadh, as he feels that the current Nerazzurri squad is the best since Simone Inzaghi took over.
A special Derby della Madonnina is taking place on Monday night, as Inter and Milan compete for the first domestic trophy of the season, as well as for an €8m cash prize.
Inter qualified after a convincing 2-0 win over Gian Piero Gasperini’s rotated Atalanta side in the semi-final, while Milan needed a comeback to defeat Juventus 2-1 after falling 1-0 behind 20 minutes into their semi on Friday night.
Writing in his La Gazzetta dello Sport column ahead of the Supercoppa final on Monday, Capello explained how Inter can cause difficulties for their city rivals.
He began with a few words of praise for the squad that Inzaghi and his team have assembled.
“I think that the current version is the best of Nerazzurri side since Simone Inzaghi took over. In the words of the coach himself, ‘the boys have gone beyond all expectations’.
Inter will be without a few notable absentees on Monday night, including leading goalscorer Marcus Thuram, who came off at half-time during the semi-final.
“Of course Thuram’s absence will be a miss, at least in terms of goals. The weight on Lautaro Martinez’s shoulders will also increase, he might be the only one at Inter not having the best time at the moment.
“The captain wasted an unmissable chance against Atalanta, we all say it, but in terms of the performance, he did his part, as always.”

Capello believes that Inter are a threat all over the park, particularly from wide positions.
“Did you see the work of Dumfries and Dimarco out wide in the semi-final?,’ he asked. “They can cause problems for the opponents from there as well as from midfield, or from shots from distance from Calhanoglu and his teammates. There are so many options.

“However, I think that the real key to the final could be Inter’s pressing. They were determined against Atalanta, almost ferocious. Meanwhile, Milan suffered a lot from Juventus’s pressure in the first half.
“If the Nerazzurri replicate their work off the ball from the semi-final, life will get difficult for the Rossoneri.”
