Burnley reach agreement with European outfit for attacker | OneFootball

Burnley are set to sign Deji Sotona from Nice on a free transfer as the forward prepares to return to English football.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Manchester United and was highly-rated, with the Red Devils having offered Sotona professional terms in 2020 which he rejected in order to seek first-team football elsewhere.

That took the attacker to Nice but things didn’t go to plan as he has not featured over the years and had loan spells with Brentford B and Kilmarnock that weren’t productive either.

However, the Clarets still feel there is plenty of potential in Sotona as Football Insider have revealed that they are poised to sign the youngster.

It seems unlikely that he will be involved in Vincent Kompany’s plans this season, particularly as Burnley have just completed deals for Lyle Foster and Michael Obafemi to boost their options in the final third.

So, he seems set to initially join up with the U23s where he will hope to impress and catch the eye of the boss.

This is a low risk move with Sotona joining on a free so you can understand why Burnley are prepared to take a chance on the youngster.

He is someone with plenty of pedigree in youth football and was highly thought of when he was coming through at Old Trafford, which is why they wanted to keep him.

Of course, his career has stalled since but at 20 Sotona still has time on his side and he will hope that Burnley provide the perfect environment for him to start delivering in professional football.
