According to The Athletic, there are a number of names still in consideration by the Clarets to take the reins of the first team squad.

Kompany departed at the end of the Premier League campaign, agreeing to move to German giants Bayern Munich after leading the Lancashire outfit to relegation back to the Championship.

The Belgian oversaw their promotion to the top flight last season, earning 101 points as they also clinched the second division title on the way.

However, a disappointing season saw the club suffer the drop with a 19th place finish in the table.

It is understood that Alan Pardew will not be a part of the upcoming interview process to find Kompany’s successor.

The Athletic claim that there was initial contact between the club and the veteran manager, but it was not initiated by the Clarets hierarchy, and the ex-Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and West Ham boss will not figure on their shortlist going forward after brief talks.

The likes of Frank Lampard, Scott Parker and Liam Rosenior have all been mentioned as possible candidates, with Lampard set to be interviewed.

However, Steve Cooper has pulled himself out of contention for the role after informing Burnley that he has no interest.

These names have been curated from a list of over 100 possible candidates, with the Clarets looking to be as thorough as possible when choosing their replacement for Kompany.

Alan Pace is said to be quite involved in the process to find the ideal next appointment, as he is looking to build a similarly strong relationship to the one he had with Kompany over the last two years.

Burnley will be hoping whoever takes over the first team squad will be capable of guiding the club back to the Premier League as quickly as possible.

There is no immediate timeline for when a decision might be made on a new manager, with the first team squad set to return for pre-season on 24 June.

Mike Jackson and Craig Bellamy could oversee the start of pre-season, with it not being guaranteed a permanent appointment will be made in time.

Impact of Burnley manager search on transfer plans

It is understood that Burnley are looking to find someone who will take the reins as a head coach, rather than as a manager.

This means that the club’s transfer plans for the upcoming summer shouldn’t be as impacted by the lack of Kompany replacement.

It is expected that this will be a quieter summer than usual for the Lancashire club, with sales likely to take priority due to suffering relegation.

James Trafford is currently under a lot of transfer speculation, but his departure could just be the first of many in the coming weeks.

Different profile of coaches raises questions about Burnley’s process

The likes of Cooper, Rosenior, Lampard and Parker are all very different profiles of managers.

They all have their own distinct style of play and will want different archetypes of players in the transfer window.

This does raise questions about the football structure at Burnley, and the type of team the owners want to see, especially given they want to appoint a head coach after Kompany’s exit.

Everything could yet click into place, but this is a bit too scattershot and slow for the time being, which is a concern ahead of the players’ return for pre-season later this month.
