Shurandy Sambo is set to sign a deal until the summer of 2028 at Turf Moor

PSV Eindhoven defender Shurandy Samba has arrived in England ahead of confirming a move to Burnley, according to journalist Johan Inan - in a move which is now confirmed.

The two parties were said to have agreed a deal earlier this year, with the 22-year-old now leaving the Netherlands to finalise the move ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The defender has been unveiled by the Clarets on Friday, having signed a contract with the Clarets that will last until the summer of 2028.

The Dutchman will join the recently-relegated side on a free transfer, with his current deal with PSV coming to an end this weekend.

Sambo is a player who has spent his whole career in his homeland to date, having made just a single Eredivisie start for Eindhoven before his move to England.

The 22-year-old made his debut for the club as a 19-year-old in 2021, as he came on as a late substitute in their 1-1 draw with FC Utrecht, before heading out on loan to Sparta Rotterdam for the 22/23 campaign.

It was in the port city that the defender started to make a name for himself, as he featured 30 times for De Kasteelhere, and scoring twice across the course of the campaign.

Sporadic appearances followed upon his return to Eindhoven last summer, with late substitute appearances in both legs of the Champions League qualifying round against Rangers, as well as a first start for the club in May against RKC Wallwijk.

Speaking about the current situation with the player, Dutch journalist Inan posted on X: "Shurandy Sambo is in England. Right back transfers from PSV to Burnley on a free transfer, where he signs and will be presented today until mid-2028."

Despite the original confirmation of Sambo’s move coming in April, it looks as though the departure of Clarets boss Vincent Kompany has not hampered any progress with bringing the defender to the club.

Kompany was in charge of the Turf Moor outfit during their recent Premier League campaign, before jumping ship for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich after relegation from the top flight was confirmed.

The Clarets are yet to appoint a successor to the Belgian, with a number of candidates said to be linked the vacancy in recent weeks, including former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy [pictured].

The Dutchman was said to be among the favourites for the role after being interviewed by the Lancashire club earlier this month, although he is also said to be being considered for a return to Old Trafford in a coaching role.

Queens Park Rangers boss Marti Cifuentes is also said to be in the conversation about succeeding Kompany in the north west, while former Derby County boss Frank Lampard was also said to be a consideration in the past.

But despite the lack of manager at the club at this moment in time, the Clarets have continued with the signing of the Dutch youth international, who becomes the club’s third signing of the summer.

Sambo becomes the third man in through the door this summer after the loan deals for Mike Tresor and Maxime Esteve became permanent, after being borrowed from Genk and Montpellier respectively for the previous campaign.
