Bundesliga top scorer's race: Who is challenging Harry Kane for 2024/25 honour?

Last season's elite marksman Harry Kane leads the way once more at the top of the Bundesliga's goalscoring chart, but there are number of players eager to steal his crown...

Current leaders

1) Harry Kane Club: BayernGoals: 22Appearances: 25

Kane stormed to the top of the Bundesliga goalscoring charts last season - even going close to Robert Lewandowski's all-time single-campaign record of 41 on his way to 36 strikes - and he has carried that form into the current term. The England captain has already struck three hat-tricks, including against 2023/24 runners-up VfB Stuttgart, taking his total tally of trebles to seven in less than one and a half seasons. A hamstring injury in the Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund stopped him in his tracks but he returned to action on Matchday 15 and has been in fine scoring form so far in 2025.

2) Patrik SchickClub: Bayer LeverkusenGoals: 17Appearances: 24

Despite only making 14 Bundesliga starts in 2024/25, Schick is among the league's sharpest shooters. It is a feat made all the more remarkable given that all 17 of his efforts were scored between Matchdays 10 and 26, with the 28-year-old having played second fiddle to Victor Boniface for much of the campaign before the latter suffered an injury. He was on target four times against Freiburg on Matchday 15, netting his second hat-trick of the season following his treble against Heidenheim on Matchday 11.

=3) Omar Marmoush, Jonathan Burkardt, Tim KleindienstClub: Manchester City (formerly at Eintracht Frankfurt), MainzBorussia MönchengladbachGoals: 15Appearances: 17, 23, 25

Marmoush showed glimpses of his goalscoring ability last season, netting on 12 occasions in 29 Bundesliga outings, but he took his game to the next level this time round. The Egyptian found the back of the net in 11 of Eintracht's 17 matches, with his most eye-catching performance coming against Bayern - he created one and scored two, including a last-minute equaliser, in a 3-3 draw. That game came during a run of nine goals in six matches, and Marmoush proved himself to be an adept free-kick taker, finding the back of the net with two set-pieces. He gained as many as nine assists also before leaving Eintracht Frankfurt in January.

One of Germany's brightest young strikers, Burkardt was well on his way fulfilling his potential before a serious knee injury struck him down in 2022/23. The centre-forward needed 11 months to recover, but eight goals in 21 matches last season suggested his ability remained. His return to form coincided with Bo Henriksen's arrival, and after a full summer working together, Burkardt has led - both literally and metaphorically as captain - Mainz's charge up the table this season. Some 15 strikes have followed, including match-winning braces against Augsburg and Hoffenheim, as well as a winner at top-four chasing rivals Leipzig.

A late bloomer, Kleindienst's star continues to rise. Twelve goals for Heidenheim in their maiden Bundesliga term earned him a move to traditional giants Gladbach this summer, and he has settled in quickly at Borussia-Park. He scored on his debut against Bayer Leverkusen, and followed that up with another strike against Bochum the following week, setting the tone for the campaign. The kind of form that saw him become the highest-scoring German player in the Bundesliga earned Kleindienst his first call-up to the national team in October - and he now has four goals in his first six international appearances.

6) Serhou Guirassy Club: Borussia DortmundGoals: 14Appearances: 23

The Guinea striker is slowly but surely finding his goalscoring touch at the Signal Iduna Park. With 14 goals to date in the league - including a fantastic four-goal haul against Union Berlin - and 10 strikes in the UEFA Champions League league phase, Guirassy is having a terrific season.

7) Hugo Ekitiké Club: FrankfurtGoals: 13Appearances: 27Ekitké is flourishing in his first full season in Frankfurt, having joined from PSG in Janaury 2024. Blessed with skill and quick feet that defy his 6'2" (1.89m) frame, the rangy forward struck up a productive partnership with Marmoush and scored with increasing consistency - as well as chipping in with the odd assist.

8) Jamal MusialaClub: BayernGoals: 11Appearances: 24

Bayern have a host of talented forwards, but it is attacking midfielder Musiala who has been his team's most prolific goalscorer after Kane this term. Having scored at least 10 goals in each of the past two Bundesliga campaigns, the youngster has given no casue to doubt his ability to find the back of the net, but it is the variety of strikes he has converted this term that has been really eye-catching. He has managed two with his head, previously a weakness of his, while he has also got himself into more advanced positions to grab goals that poachers would be proud of. Efforts such as his stunner against St. Pauli underline the fact that he can score from anywhere, and his tally will surely continue to climb.

A hat-trick in Bremen on Matchday 26 followed by a match-winning strike at home to Leipzig the following weekend saw Gladbach's French forward make a late burst into the top 10.

Šeško's fine form continued with the goal that brought Leipzig level against Heidenheim on Matchday 23, although the home draw somewhat dented the top-four hopes of Die Roten Bullen. The Slovenian also has five assists to his name in the top flight this term.

Amoura has been enjoying a positive season on loan at the Wolves from Belgian side Union St. Gilloise. He notably scored an impressive brace in his side's 5-1 victory in Leipzig, and also scored a late penalty in Stuttgart to ensure Ralph Hasenhüttl's side came away with all three points.

After a fantastic season with Augsburg last time out, Demirović replaced the Guirassy-shaped hole at Stuttgart. The 2024/25 campaign has had its ups and downs for the Bosnia international - he scored five goals in his first six league games but struggled to match that pace in the following months - but his current nine-goal tally is very respectable, especially when he is battling fellow dangermen Deniz Undav and Nick Woltemade for minutes.

Leverkusen attacking wonder Wirtz's creative mastery has led him to nine goals already this campaign, most recently with a brace against Gladbach on Matchday 18. He was firmly on course for the highest-scoring season of his career to date - with 11 goals from an historic 2023/24 season, in which he was named Bundesliga Player of the Season, the figure to beat - until an ankle injury struck him in March.

A trio of other players are currently tied with Wirtz on nine goals - fellow Germany international Sané, Augsburg revelation Claude-Maurice and youthful Stuttgart striker Woltemade.
