There was a monumental 25 goals scored across nine matchdays in week nine of the Bundesliga which included a nine-goal thriller at Deutsche Bank Park, which resulted in Eintracht Frankfurt closing the gap to second-placed RB Leipzig who suffered their first defeat of the season against Borussia Dortmund.
Alexander Nübel (VfB Stuttgart) – Sebastian Hoeneß’ Stuttgart played out a goalless draw at the BayArena on Friday night to kickstart the Bundesliga matchday. Nübel made five saves against the reigning champions, preventing 0.73 goals, per Sofascore. Pulled off a magnificent save to deny Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.
Emre Can (Borussia Dortmund) – Nuri Şahin had ten injuries coming into their Bundesliga Topspiel against unbeaten RB Leipzig, meaning Emre Can started in defence – which isn’t entirely unfamiliar – alongside Nico Schlotterbeck. Commanding, Can made four clearances and five tackles, including a clearance off the line and a last man tackle. Not only that, Can was confident in possession, completing 94 percent (60/64) of his passes.
Patrick Erras (Holstein Kiel) – Marcel Rapp’s side registered their first win in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 victory against Heidenheim. The visitors dominated possession and chances, but it was a stalwart defensive performance that ultimately secured Kiel’s maiden win. Erras scored the only goal of the game but also registered eight clearances, and won four of his nine aerial duels.
Anthony Rouault (VfB Stuttgart) – The Swabian side have problems defensively which saw the Frenchman start alongside Anrie Chase. An unfamiliar partnership, the duo complemented each other well and kept Florian Wirtz and Co. at bay. Rouault registered eight clearances, one interception and one tackle, while winning 75 percent of his ground duels.
Max Geschwill (Holstein Kiel) – The 23-year-old registered an assist for his defensive partner Erras, but was also solid defensively in Holstein Kiel’s back three. With two clearances, two blocked shots, three interceptions and three tackles, Geschwill was Kiel’s best player.
Felix Nmecha (Borussia Dortmund) – Playing as the six in a flat 4-1-4-1 is perhaps an unfamiliar role for Nmecha, but he adapted well. Was at the centre of everything that Borussia Dortmund did, always looked to progress the ball, completed three key passes and registered an assist.
Mahmoud Dahoud (Eintracht Frankfurt) – The former Borussia Dortmund and Brighton midfielder was awarded his first start in the Bundesliga for new club Eintracht Frankfurt. A commanding display alongside Ellyes Skhiri, Dahoud netted in the club’s 7-2 win against Bochum, while also registering an assist. Two key passes, Dahoud completed 87 percent of his passes and was strong in his duels.
Maximilian Beier (Borussia Dortmund) – A first goal in Black and Yellow for Beier, the €30m signing has lacked confidence and has struggled since his move from Hoffenheim in the summer but against RB Leipzig, created the joint most chances in the match and was an outlet for Dortmund on the right flank. Also registered an assist.
Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich) – Coming up against the second-best defence in the league, Bayern Munich faced a difficult task but dispatched Union Berlin with ease, winning 3-0. Coman was phenomenal for Vincent Kompany’s side, scoring and registering an assist.
Omar Marmoush (Eintracht Frankfurt) – The Egyptian just does not stop scoring. He scored his tenth goal in nine Bundesliga games against Bochum while registering two assists taking his goal contributions to 16 for the season. Explosive pace and neat dribbling, Marmoush is proving a handful in the final third and has improved immensely.
Tim Kleindienst (Borussia Mönchengladbach) – Die Fohlen returned to winning ways with an emphatic performance against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga’s final game. Although he didn’t score, Kleindienst was a nuisance in the penalty area which resulted in Marco Friedl putting the ball in his own net, while the 29-year-old also registered three assists.
