Bruno Guimaraes explains outburst | OneFootball

Bruno Guimaraes is rarely away from the headlines.

Whether that is concerning Newcastle United or Brazil.

Currently in the United States competing in the Copa America, Bruno Guimaraes and his international teammates went into the competition on a run of only two wins in eight, only able to defeat England and Mexico since September 2023.

A significant problems has been the attacking players not taking advantage of the many chances created game after game. That summed up in their opening Copa America group match, completely dominating Costa Rica and having 19 shots compared to just two for Costa Rica, Brazil still only ended up with a goalless draw.

Friday night (early hours Saturday UK time) in Las Vegas, Bruno Guimaraes and Brazil winning 4-1, ironically having only six shots on target but scoring four of the six.

The Newcastle midfielder was at the heart of the action and initiated the move for the opening goal, his incisive pass to Paqueta on the edge of the box saw then the ball put in for Vinicius Jnr to score.

After the game Bruno Guimaraes explained his outburst, as when he joined his teammates in the corner to celebrate that opening goal, he was seen shouting/screaming at the Brazil fans celebrating in front of him.

Bruno Guimaraes:

“I’m a guy who respects everyone and I’m aware that we need all Brazilians together on our journey.

“The first swear word is an outburst of “finally the goal came.”

“The speech afterwards is praising Brazil.

“There is no us against them (fans).

“What exists is a group of players with a great desire to see our people enjoying watching the national team.

“The fight today was to do what we couldn’t do in the first game: goals and victory.

“Just a celebration. No confrontation.

“Let’s celebrate today’s victory. Brazillllll”

Bruno’s mate Paqueta had blazed a penalty yards wide only four minutes before that first goal, so no doubt that had hyped up further an always emotional Bruno.

Bruno Guimaraes very happy with the eventual outcome of the match:

“Victory for a team that never gives up, never stops fighting and always looks for the goal.

“Happy to achieve what we hadn’t achieved in our [Copa America] first match.

“Let’s all go together: team, committee, board and fans.

“For Brazil always.”

Final scoreline: Paraguay 1 Brazil 4

A great game ensued in Las Vegas, end to end stuff as both teams went for it. Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron in the heart of the action.

It was actually Paraguay with the early chances but they couldn’t take advantage, then Brazil handed a very soft penalty for ‘handball’, Paqueta though missing the target by a few yards on 31 minutes.

Only four minutes later though and Brazil were ahead.

Bruno Guimaraes initiated the move, a key pass into Paqueta who released Vinicius Jnr to finish.

On 42 minutes, the Newcastle United midfielder then lashing a volley against the bar from outside the box and with the crossbar still shaking, only some 30 seconds later or so, Savinho did give Brazil a two-goal advantage.

That became three deep into added time when persistence from Vinicius Jnr saw him gifted a close-in-second personal goal as a defender lost possession.

All of this very rough on Paraguay who had played well and no way deserved to be three behind at the break.

Coming out for the second half with purpose, it only took three minutes for Paraguay to pull one back, a superb long-range Alderete effort into the bottom corner.

With Paraguay pressurising Brazil, Almiron and his teammates’ hopes ended in poor fashion. An even softer ‘handball’ penalty was gifted to Brazil, far worse than the first one, this time Paqueta scoring with 25 minutes remaining.

Miguel Almiron played the full match, whilst Bruno Guimaraes was one of five players subbed late on with the game won.

The scoreline not doing any kind of justice to Paraguay’s efforts.

In their goalless opener, Brazil had 19 shots compared to two for Costa Rica, this time it was 17 for Brazil and 15 for Paraguay. The two teams having six each on target. Whilst possession was only 55% and 45% in Brazil’s favour.

The automated Whoscored player ratings see Miguel Almiron (6.7) rated second best performer for Paraguay, whilst Bruno Guimaraes (7.0) one of Brazil’s better players.

The net result though is that Miggy and Paraguay are now eliminated, whilst Brazil are almost certain to go through as at least group runners-up on Tuesday 2 July, unless things go very wrong when the final matches see Brazil face Colombia and Paraguay up against Costa Rica, Brazil currently with a six goals and three points advantage over Costa Rica.

Colombia 2 Paraguay 1 (Copa America Group match)

Miguel Almiron and Paraguay very unlucky against one of the favourites to win the tournament.

Paraguay going two down by the break due to poorly defended headed goals, then pulling one back in the second half but unable to get the equaliser they deserved.

The final stats showed that Paraguay had more overall shots (12 v 11), the same number on target (3 v 3) and the same number of corners (3-3). Only when it came to putting the ball in the net, did Colombia edge it.

Brazil 0 Costa Rica 0 (Copa America Group match)

Chance after chance went by for those playing in front of Bruno Guimaraes, who has a generally more disciplined deeper role to play for his national side. The Newcastle midfielder having a very good personal performance.

Marquinhos saw a goal ruled out via one of those very marginal VAR offside calls, whilst Paqueta saw a rocket of a shot come back off the post.

Costa Rica struggled to even get out of their half and the final stats showed Brazil with 19 v 2 in terms of overall shots and 9 v 1 on corners.

Bruno Guimaraes almost won it himself late on, his effort from just inside the box, clearing the angle of the goal by a very small margin.

Paraguay 1 Brazil  4 (Copa America Group match)

Both Newcastle United players performing well but the end result means Paraguay eliminated and Brazil all but certain of going through as at least group runners-up.

In their goalless opener, Brazil had 19 shots compared to two for Costa Rica, this time it was 17 for Brazil and 15 for Paraguay. The two teams having six each on target. Whilst possession was only 55% and 45% in Brazil’s favour.

Brazil’s attacking players had been guilt of not taking their chances but this time four of their six on target finding the back if the net.
