Manchester United’s big hitters are slowly returning from international duty with Bruno Fernandes joining Wednesday’s training session at Carrington.

This was the skipper’s first session with new head coach Ruben Amorim after he returned early from international duty. The session included a friendly game between the players which the Portuguese’s team ended up winning.

The 30-year-old put up a social media post declaring his team winners, presumably against Kobbie Mainoo’s team as the caption read, “Winning team, Try again next time Kobbie.”

It will be interesting to see where the former Sporting Lisbon boss plays the Portugal international. His system does not necessarily need an attacking midfielder but Mason Mount was spotted playing up top on Monday.

Fernandes back in training

The former Sporting star’s versatility means he can also play alongside the striker or even as one of the double pivots in the centre of the park.

The session also included Amad Diallo, Mount, Tyrell Malacia, Marcus Rashford, and Casemiro among senior stars while the opposite team’s composition is not known fully.

A whole host of academy stars were also present like Ruben Curley, Hubert Graczyk, Godwill Kukonki, Daniel Armer, and Will Murdock, just to name a few.

Amorim has already shown he is not afraid of utilising youngsters and plenty of academy stars will be eager to catch his eye in the coming weeks.

Amorim’s first test

More internationals are expected back in the coming days and Amorim can then begin training with his full squad in earnest. However, he is not expected to have too much time ahead of Sunday’s test against Ipswich Town.

Irrespective of the result, the coach has assured that the beginnings of an idea can be spotted even in the opening games and fans will be intrigued to find out if his preferred 3-4-3 system can translate into success at Old Trafford.

From positional tweaks to personnel alterations, Amorim has not been afraid to ring in the changes during training and hopefully, the players can adapt to the coach’s demands.

After all, he has impressed plenty of the stars with his self-belief with many even claiming he is like a younger Jose Mourinho.
