Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was ecstatic following his side’s astonishing come-from-behind victory over Manchester City.
Pep Guardiola’s men took the lead in the 36th minute when Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected cross found Josko Gvardiol who left Andre Onana stranded with a powerful header.
But despite trailing for the bulk of the match, the Red Devils somehow managed to prevail, pulling off a late uprising to take all three points home.
Amad Diallo was the main protagonist in the comeback. He won the spot-kick that allowed his skipper to equalize the scoring, before pouncing on a long ball from Lisandro Martinez to snatch the winner two minutes later.
Therefore, Fernandes only had words of praise for his young teammate after the final whistle.
“He has been doing well, he has been doing great things and there is a still a lot to come from him,” said the 30-year-old in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.
“He showed again today he is always alive. That is why he gets the penalty, why he gets the goal. He has been brilliant. When he is like this he is unstoppable.
“I just want him to keep working, that is what he has been doing. It is great what he did today but I am sure he can do this every week. We want this week in, week out. He is now getting his chances, deservedly.”
Before scoring from the spot, Bruno had wasted a sitter after finding himself one-on-one with Ederson. He managed to dink the ball over the goalkeeper, but it went just wide.
“It was a big chance when still 1-0 down. I just tried to lift the ball away from Ederson. A penalty is a moment of nerves. They are a big part of games. I am ready to calm myself down in big moments.”
The United skipper suggests the squad is still in the process of absorbing the philosophy of their new manager Ruben Amorim.
“It is a process, we know what he demands, what he wants. It doesn’t matter what happens, we stick to what we do.”
