Taylor Moore is set to join Bristol Rovers on a free transfer.
Former Bristol City defender Taylor Moore is set to join rivals Bristol Rovers.
Taylor is set to have a medical with the Gas ahead of signing a three-year contract, according to Football Insider.
The 27-year-old centre-back spent seven seasons at Ashton Gate between 2016 and 2023.
He left French Ligue 2 side Valenciennes earlier this year after hitting a supporter during a reserve fixture, and will join Rovers on a free transfer.
Rovers boss Matt Taylor will be looking to build on last season's 15th place finish in the third tier, and it looks like Moore will become his third signing of the summer. The Gas have already brought in highly-rated midfielder Isaac Hutchinson from Walsall and left-back Clinton Mola from fellow League One side Reading.Only four sides in League One conceded more than the 68 goals that Rovers let in last season, and three of them were relegated, so it is clear that Moore is being signed to tighten up the back line.
Moore has plenty of experience at the age of 27, having made 48 Championship appearances for Bristol City, as well as playing 103 games in League One for Bury, Southend United, Blackpool and Shrewsbury Town.
Moore came through Lens' youth set-up and was the subject of a multi-million pound bid from Lyon as a teenager. He eventually joined Bristol City in 2016 for a fee reported to be in the region of £1.5m.He played 60 times in all competitions during a seven-year spell at Ashton Gate, before he was released at the end of the 2022/23 season. He was usually a squad player during his time with the Robins, and was sent on loan six times while at the club. His only goal came in a 3-3 draw against Preston North End at Deepdale in 2019.Moore will hope that he can enjoy more regular first-team football than he was given at Bristol City when he arrives at the Memorial Stadium.
Following his release from Ashton Gate, Moore headed back to France. He made 21 appearances in all competitions for Valenciennes, before he was 'dismissed' by the club earlier this year after an incident in a reserves game against Lille.Moore reportedly hit a supporter at the club's training centre during the game and was let go on a free transfer. The defender will be glad to return to England where he can continue his career, and hope that he can put the incident behind him and learn from it.
The Gas need a new defender who can ease their defensive woes of last season, and they might have found the man they need. The centre-back is a physical presence and is good in the air, with his defensive awareness and bravery making him a solid option in League One.Boss Taylor, who was a central defender during his own playing days, will be looking forward to working with him this season.Rovers fans will hope that Taylor can hit the ground running at the Memorial Stadium next season and they can forget about his previous allegiances in the city.
