Sinclair Armstrong could be on his way out of Bristol City before the end of the summer window.

Bristol City forward Sinclair Armstrong could be facing an exit from Bristol City this summer, just one year after signing for the Robins from Queens Park Rangers.

Irish international Armstrong may be facing the exit door at Ashton Gate before the end of the summer window, as exclusively revealed by FLW on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old has yet to truly cement himself as the Robins' main striker since joining the club, with Nahki Wells being the preferred option up front last season, but following his departure, the club has since brought in Emil Riis, who seems to be manager Gerhard Struber's man.

Struber himself replaced Liam Manning in the dugout at Ashton Gate this summer following his departure to boyhood club Norwich City, yet Armstrong's fortunes don't seem to have changed under the new boss.

Riis has started both league matches for the Robins so far this season, whilst 19-year-old Ephraim Yeboah was chosen over Armstrong in their 2-0 victory over MK Dons in the League Cup, with the Irishman only able to make late appearances off the bench in each fixture.

Armstrong was the subject of interest from both Bristol City and fellow Championship side Stoke City last summer, though it was the former who secured his signature after agreeing a £2.5 million deal with the Hoops, per the Irish Independent.

The once-capped Irish international was in the final year of his contract with the West London club before they decided to cash in on him last summer.

Armstrong had never proven himself a prolific scorer at senior level prior to his move to Bristol, scoring just three times in 61 Championship games for QPR, yet his move was full of optimism due to the natural athleticism he possessed.

However, his output in front of goal has yet to drastically improve in a red shirt, scoring just three times in the 36 Championship appearances for the Robins last season, whilst senior striker Wells notched ten goals and four assists in 39 league games.

With Austrian manager Struber replacing the outgoing Wells with former Preston striker Riis, Armstrong will have to prove himself as a worthy contender for the main striker spot in the side, or a move elsewhere may be sanctioned.

Still only 22-years-old, Armstrong has ample time to prove himself at Championship level, though guaranteed minutes will be crucial to his development, and if he can't get that at Bristol City, a transfer should be sanctioned.

Under contract until 2028, the Robins will be in a strong position to command a large portion of the fee that they paid QPR just last summer. However, it's difficult to see any club paying that for Armstrong before the end of the window given his lack of progression.

A loan move to League One or abroad may be the best way for Armstrong to obtain regular minutes and boost his confidence moving forwards, as serving as a backup striker will certainly not help his development.

Where the Irishman will be playing his football by the time the window closes remains to be seen, but there's every chance it won't be at Ashton Gate, where regret could well be building after their initial outlay.
