Bring on February

Newcastle United face Wolves tonight, which, if we followed the form table, United would win at a canter.

However, we all know well, that any Premier League team can have a good day and a bad day, as can any player.

The last meet was pretty even, though we won  away.

Wolves had a bad patch and have improved.

Newcastle United started badly and are now in a purple patch.

Eight wins on the bounce, Isak scoring seven Premier League games in a row.

This Wolves match is a big game, one that could have United in fourth, by the close of business tonight. It’s a huge game.

However, I wanted to focus on the upcoming month of February.

Ahead of that, Newcastle United have three (Premier League) games – Wolves (home) we would hope to win; Bournemouth (home) we’d hope to win; and Southampton (away) – on current form, we should win.

So I think we could be pushing third place with Arsenal having a local derby vs Spurs tonight, then facing a faltering Villa at the weekend.

However, I now want to turn to February – It looks potentially colossal for us if we do well, likewise it could see us tumble if NUFC do badly.

Hopefully we will be in third or fourth place when we get to February, then this is what follows:

Feb 1 – Fulham (Home)

Fulham currently struggling with form, we would hope for a win. Arsenal face Man City at home – any result is possible. Liverpool face Bournemouth away which they would expect to win; Notts Forest face Brighton at home which you would expect them to win.

Feb 5 – Arsenal in Carabao Cup semi-final 2nd leg (Home)

A chance to finish them off at SJP, 2-0 up and the pressure should be less, we can sing, shout and boo to take us to Wembley. Can’t see the Gunners turning us over.

Weekend of Saturday 8 Feb – Birmingham (Away) in FA Cup

Difficult one this, a real banana skin. Having played Arsenal in the midweek, you have to assume Howe will rest players rather than risk injury, but he will want to go for it too. The Newcastle players then not having their next game to the following weekend.

Feb 15 – Man City (away)

A very difficult fixture normally but Man City are all over the place.

I get a feeling we should expect a loss, can’t help but hope though for a better result, Man City are no longer invincible.

We play well, we have the potential.

Arsenal have Leicester away, so you have to expect them to win, Liverpool have their postponed Everton away game (on 12 Feb) – you have to expect Everton to lose (and most of us are hoping I expect). Liverpool then have Wolves at home that weekend (16 Feb), which you would anticipate them to win. Forest have a tricky Fulham away fixture, will they still be in fine form?

Feb 23 – Notts Forest (home)

what a cracking game to have, straight after Man City.

My view is that if we lose to Man City, we will be able to bounce back.

If we win vs Man City, we will be on a high to push up the table even more, possibly taking Forest’s place. Liverpool take on Man City away – in a similar vein, if Man City have beaten us, they will be on a high to try and beat the league leaders and will be well up for the game. If they lose, they will want to fight back…. tough fixture for both.

Feb 26 – Liverpool (away) TBC

If it stays on this date, only three days after we play Notts Forest, but it would also be only three days after Liverpool play Man City. Will be a very good game for sure. Could go either way, but in terms of when to play Liverpool, I’d say ideal after they have had a hard game. It could be a huge game for us, if results through the rest of the month go our way.

February is looking like an awesome month of football for us to watch, but this will be like climbing Mount Everest, a lot of hard work has got us to base camp, and now the push on.

If everything goes well, we could be heading up towards the summit in beautiful blue skies. We could be up there challenging for the top spot (in my dreams any way).

Or the clouds could close in around us and we lose our way, end up back a base camp feeling sorry for ourselves.

My hopes are sky high, but regardless of the outcome, let’s enjoy a cracking February of football and dream the Newcastle United dream.
