Brighton took four points off Man City last season

Manchester City will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they take on Brighton this weekend.

After dismantling Wolves 4-0 in their opening game of the new Premier League campaign, Man City were dealt a reality check last week as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Tottenham.

In truth, Pep Guardiola’s side were second best against Spurs as summer signings Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki struggled on their home debuts.

Next up for City is a tricky test away at a Brighton side who warmed up for this fixture by thumping Oxford 6-0 on Wednesday night to reach the Carabao Cup third round.

However, it has been a different story in the Premier League for the Seagulls so far. Without a win in two, drawing at home to Fulham before losing to Everton, although their finishing has let them down in both games.

Adam Webster has been ruled out for a large portion of the season after undergoing knee surgery last month. The defender along with Solly March and Julio Enciso are definitely sidelined.

Georginio Rutter missed the 2-0 loss at Everton and the win over Oxford. The forward has returned to training and is expected to be available against City.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler is expected to revert to his Premier League XI having rested a number of big names for the midweek cup tie.

Rayan Ait-Nouri was forced off early against Spurs, but the Man City summer signing is on course to be available for selection against Brighton.

Guardiola will deliver updates on Josko Gvardiol, Savinho and Claudio Echeverri in his pre-match press conference, but Mateo Kovavic remains sidelined.

Man City looked imperious against Wolves but reverted back to a lot of last season’s performances in the home loss to Spurs. As a result, it’s tough to know what City side will turn up at the Amex.

Keep in mind that Guardiola’s side struggled in both meetings with Brighton last season, this is a tricky encounter for the visitors.

The hosts are creating chances but have lacked a cutting edge so far. The 6-0 win over Oxford will have boosted morale but City are an entirely different proposition and this one could be a high-scoring draw.
