‘I was thinking how are we losing this match?

Thankfully we finally got a penalty!

Well done Isak, a brilliant penalty.

I see this as a massive point gained, the way the game went.

Next Sunday is crucial, back at home and hopefully we can put on a performance to take the points for us and away from Chelsea.’

David Punton:

‘Isak’s spot kick heroics at the death spares us the usual tale of woe down at Brighton.

United really got out of jail there today.

The VAR intervening to thwart our hopes before finally a moment goes our way, as we do get the penalty.

It’s a huge point on a tough away ground as we battle for this Champions League spot.

A big save kept us in it and you’d have to say Brighton didn’t exactly deserve the lead.

The sale of Minteh last summer stings and it still does. Here again, he showed us what we lost. A very decent player.

It’s one of those today, where if you had been offered a draw away at Brighton before kick off then you’d have taken it.’

Billy Miller:

‘It’s a place where we never do well but it was one of our better performances at the Amex.

Brighton looked set to do the treble over us with two penalties overruled (correctly) and old boy Minteh showing precisely what we’ve lost.

He put in a dogged display including a goal and the creation of several dangerous situations.

Fortunately, at the third time of asking we had a penalty confirmed and Isak tucked it away.

The point could be all important come the end of the season.’

Bazoox:

‘With so much at stake and the recent failings of some of our rivals for the Champions League, I thought there was a distinct lack of urgency in our play up until Minteh opened the scoring for Brighton.

We improved significantly in the second half and it would have been criminal if we hadn’t picked anything up from the game.

This could be a crucial point at this stage of the season, at a place we don’t usually do well at.’

Mark Jankowski:

‘A thoroughly deserved point on the road at Brighton.

In truth, it was a game we controlled but we struggled to fashion many clear-cut chances.

As time wore on, we put Brighton under pressure with numerous shouts for penalties getting overturned for a variety of reasons.

Eventually we got the penalty we deserved and after an inexplicably long VAR check, Isak despatched it with aplomb.

We’re edging closer to Champions League qualification and if Liverpool can win later today, I think we may seal it next week against Chelsea.’

Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey…:

‘Big, big point if Champions League football is your tipple.

Alex Isak, the last player to score a winning goal in a cup final for Newcastle United, showing yet again that he has ice flowing through his veins.

Don’t be fooled by the league table.

That point was massive.’

Oden Hudson:

‘After a rather dull first half, where it looked like the Amex would continue to be our bogey ground, a spirited second half fightback made a draw almost feel slightly unfair.

Overall, a point away at Brighton is a pretty good result and next week’s tie against Chelsea looks likely to be the key decisive fixture.’

Simon Ritter:

‘Despite the best efforts of Craig Pawson, now my favourite referee, we left with a point when we needed three to put pressure on a faltering Arsenal and keep the chasing pack at bay.

The VAR, Andy Madley, did his job correctly and Willock was rightly booked for a foolish dive.

There was no lack of effort from United but there were far too many misplaced passes, wayward shots and wrong decisions when in possession.

Tonali had one of his worst games, as did Livramento. They have set such high standards this season, any drop-off is obvious.

Isak has yet to regain the pace he had before Wembley and if he is not carrying some sort of muscle injury I’m baffled. His equaliser was perfectly taken but in general play he lacked the spark that makes him an exceptional striker.

Wilson was denied by a top save and overall we would have been the more worthy victors.

Would Joelinton have made the difference? Sadly, we will probably have to battle on without him.

The wait for a first Premier League win at the Amex could have been ended today.

Not until the final whistle is blown on May 25 will we discover the value of one point.’

Tony Mallabar:

‘First up, VAR got all three calls they got right.

I’ve banged on for ages about cheating and diving amongst owa players and Joe Willock not only showed himself up but our club and fans. Do these players still not get that the big shiny cameras at the football are pointing at them?’

Junior Numbers:

‘Interesting game, was gutted about the penalty decisions but watching them after the game, shows VAR actually got it right for a change.

I thought we were poor in the final third and should’ve done better in the goal scoring department but on to Chelsea and I’m still confident that we’ll get champions league.’
