Brendan Rodgers has provided an update on Alistair Johnston after he was substituted at half time in the UEFA Champions League draw against Dinamo Zagreb. The Scottish Champions were held to a 0-0 draw in what proved to be a fairly dull encounter.
Johnston was on the receiving end of a yellow card challenge from Marko Rog. With the Premier Sports Cup Final fast approaching, Celtic fans will have been anxious about the substitution – especially given his excellent form this year.
Speaking to the media conference after the game, Rodgers provided an update on the injury and said it was a precautionary substitution.
“Yeah, from the tackle on the side, I think it was his hip flexor, so nothing for the muscular, which is good. So just felt a bit of pain.
“At half-time, there was no need to risk that. He got through to half-time really well. So all being well that will settle down in the next couple of days.”
Tony Ralston came on and was solid at the back but Celtic were relatively unremarkable in attack and Zagreb defended well. Although, Brendan appears to be confident that this is just a bit of soreness as opposed to a muscle injury.
Celtic will need to up their performance levels against Rangers after a fairly passive display. The Scottish Champions can pick up the first trophy of the season against their Glasgow rivals but will know that the game is a different prospect all together.
