A lot has been said about Reinier’s future lately, with the playmaker currently out of Xabi Alonso’s game plan heading into the new season.
Real Madrid have struggled to find suitors for the Brazilian and are reportedly ready to terminate his contract this summer.
However, in recent days, Reinier has emerged as a key target for several clubs across Europe, including even English outfit Norwich City.
But according to The Athletic (h/t Mundo Deportivo), it is Atletico Mineiro who appear to be leading the race to sign Reinier this summer.
The Brazilian outfit have emerged as the best-placed club to sign the playmaker, who has struggled to prove himself at Real Madrid.
Reinier spent various loan spells at clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Girona and most recently, Granada, but to no avail.

Reinier, for his part, reportedly considered returning to his former club, Flamengo, or even joining another Brazilian giant in the form of Botafogo.
But as things stand, Atletico Mineiro could be in a position to snap up the Real Madrid outcast, with the Spanish giants themselves keen on getting rid of the player.
A move to Atletico Mineiro might not be a bad decision for Reinier as he looks to revive his career after a horror spell at Real Madrid.
Even if the move breaks down, Reinier looks certain to leave Santiago Bernabeu sooner rather than later, knowing he is no longer a useful asset at the club.
Real Madrid, for their part, would ideally want to get rid of him this summer, as his contract at the club expires in 2026.
