Botafogo Sporting Director Closes Door On Interest In Inter Milan Outcast: ‘We Spoke With His Agents But Won’t Sign Him’ | OneFootball

The Sporting Director of Botafogo has confirmed that the Brazilian club will not sign Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi this summer.

Botafogo Sporting Director Leo Coelho spoke to Amazon, via FCInterNews. He confirmed that there were talks with the Iranian’s agents, but says that there will not be a transfer.

Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi has been at the centre of a number of transfer rumours in recent weeks.

The 33-year-old had a very underwhelming first season at Inter. Therefore, there is a widespread feeling that he will be on his way after just one year at the club.

There have been plenty of clubs to show an interest in Taremi’s signature.

All of Besiktas, Porto, West Ham United, Fulham, and Leeds United reportedly see the Iranian as a target.

However, a new name as also entered the mix. Brazilian club Botafogo are reportedly keen on a surprise swoop for Taremi.

Botafogo’s Sporting Director Leo Coelho explained the situation with his club’s interest in Taremi, however.

“Regarding the negotiations with Taremi,” he said. “They were very preliminary.”

“In reality, we were just sounding it out. His agents also inquired about the possibility of him coming to do, and they presented their demands to us.”

“But it’s a matter of keeping our books balanced,” said Coelho.

“We need to understand our budget and our squad. So as to not create problems for ourselves that are out of proportion.”

The Botafogo Sporting Director said that “initially we didn’t make any progress” in talks with Taremi.

“It was discussed at some length. But we chose not to make a move any further, because we have other needs.”
