Fabrizio Romano reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach youth striker Winsley Boteli will leave the club this summer.
Boteli will join Swiss side Sion initially on loan, but the agreement will include a €3.5m buy option. The 18-year-old extended his contract with Gladbach last summer until 2028.
For the under-19s this season, Boteli has eight goals and one assist in eight games, but he has spent more time with Gladbach’s second team in the Regionalliga West this season, and he has struggled. The 18-year-old played 25 times, scoring three and assisting two from 14 starts.
On top of this, due to the performances of Tim Kleindienst this season as well as the club looking for a backup for the German international, there was no clear path into the first team at Borussia Park. The loan back to his homeland will allow him to play at a higher level and potentially prove himself before returning to fight for a player in die Fohlenelf.
In the past, Boteli had previously rejected approaches from Manchester United, Everton and Juventus to stay with Gladbach.
