Reports that English attacker Jamie Gittens wants to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer are – according to sporting director Lars Ricken – untrue. Ricken spoke to German broadcaster DAZN prior to kick-off in last night’s UEFA Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga personnel executive noted in his interview that the 20-year-old remained fully devoted to the only club he’s represented professionally.
“I can unequivocally state that this is not true,” Ricken told DAZN shortly before kick-off. ”The lad was with us in the youth sector. An extremely strong relationship of trust has grown there. He identifies 100 percent with BVB.”
Gittens joined the Dortmund academy from Manchester City in September 2020. Since then, the England U21 international’s estimated market value has skyrocketed from €4m to €50m. Sky Germany initially reported that after head coach Niko Kovac handed him only one start in the club’s last eight fixtures, Gittens was eager to accrue playing time elsewhere.
