Sebastian Kehl has confirmed that Borussia Dortmund have reached a “general agreement” with Chelsea to extend the loan of Carney Chukwuemeka until the end of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Speaking to reporters in Florida, Kehl said – via Bild: “There is positive news about Carney.
“I conducted discussions with Chelsea. In the end, we have a general agreement that Carney will stay with us as long as this tournament is for Borussia Dortmund. There are still some formalities to be dealt with, but we are very confident that we will continue to see Carney back in a black and yellow jersey at his tournament.”
Chukwuemeka’s contract originally expires on June 30, but Borussia Dortmund have been working hard to extend the player’s loan. At one point, the Bundesliga side did want to sign the Englishman on a permanent basis but a move was financially unfeasible.
It’s likely that with Jamie Gittens’ impending transfer to Chelsea for a reported €65m, that Chukwuemeka remaining at Dortmund for the remainder of the Club World Cup was a part of that deal.
