Borussia Dortmund have it all to do against Barcelona when the two teams lock horns at the Signal Iduna Park tomorrow night for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-finals saw them completely humiliated by Hansi Flick’s side.
The 4-0 win for Barcelona was the largest aggregate score of all four quarter-finals in the week and placed Flick’s men as the team closest to a semifinal berth.
90 more minutes is all that separates the Azulgranas from that special spot and they will thus be eager to kill the tie early and extinguish any of the opponents’ hopes of a comeback.
Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac spoke to the media ahead of the clash against Barcelona earlier today and dealt with a number of topics ranging from player availability to his strategy.
Needless to say, the first question bombarded at him was whether he truly believed a comeback was on the cards. Retaining full faith in his men, he said:
“We are aware of the situation. We want to show tomorrow a completely different face from the first leg and win the game.”

“Miracles happen all the time, but we also know that Barcelona have not lost any game this year,” he added, keeping in mind Barcelona’s sheer dominance.
The German coach then went on to state what the key was to beating Barcelona tomorrow and he outlined factors including his team’s desire and the fans in the stands, saying:
“We have to be there from the first minute tomorrow and get the fans to be on our side.”
“We will only get the momentum we need from them with the desire to run, performance and passion,” he added.
Finally, he addressed the elephant in the room, captain Emre Can’s availability after he missed training with the group earlier today.
“[Can] has had muscle problems in the adductor for weeks and does not stop gritting his teeth,” he said, keeping the veteran’s status in the air.
