Wigan Athletic are eyeing up a swoop for on-loan Blackpool star Niall Ennis this summer, which will be a big blow to the Seasiders.

The striker has been a revelation since his arrival at Bloomfield Road in the winter transfer window, which coincided with Blackpool's rise up the League One table. Whilst it may be too late for a play-off push, Steve Bruce's side would've been optimistic about their chances heading into next season if they got Ennis back.

However, Football League World exclusively revealed that League One rivals Wigan Athletic are eyeing a summer swoop for the Stoke City forward. This would see the 25-year-old reunited with former boss Ryan Lowe, who he worked under at Plymouth Argyle.

The ex-Wolves prospect has struggled to adapt to life in the Championship, despite boasting success in the third tier with the Pilgrims, it's never really clicked in the second tier of English football for Ennis.

Losing out on Ennis would be a big blow for Bruce's side, but they'll have plenty of alternative options lined up just in case this happens. So, we created a shortlist of three similar players who could be on Blackpool's radar this summer.

Ryan Mmaee

One man who could also be on his way out of Stoke this summer is Ryan Mmaee.

The 27-year-old arrived at the Bet365 Stadium in 2023 with an impressive CV, but has been unable to add much to that so far.

The Moroccan international striker was loaned out to Rapid Wien last summer, but failed to make a single competitive appearance for the Austrian side due to injury problems, before being recalled in February.

Mmaee needs to find regular minutes again after plenty of time on the sidelines, and a loan to League One could be an excellent chance to do so. If he can replicate the form he showed before joining the Potters, signing him could be a real coup for Blackpool.

Cauley Woodrow

An experienced head with plenty of years in the EFL, Cauley Woodrow will likely be on his way out of Luton Town this summer, regardless of which division the Hatters find themselves in.

The 30-year-old has endured a tumultuous 2024/25 campaign, failing to find the net a single time for Luton before being loaned to Blackburn Rovers for the rest of the season, which has yielded similar results.

Woodrow played some of his best football in League One during his first season with Barnsley, and could be that experienced goalscorer that Blackpool need if they can't land Ennis permanently. All things considered, this would be a smart deal for both the club and the player.

Caylan Vickers

A highly-rated young prodigy at the Brighton academy, Caylan Vickers is reportedly being looked at by plenty of Championship clubs ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 20-year-old impressed during a loan spell at Mansfield Town in the second half of the season, and could be one Blackpool look at despite the reported interest from clubs higher up the pyramid.

Adding a hungry young attacker like Vickers to the Tangerines' frontline could be deadly, especially after the evidence that Ennis has displayed so far. However, they will face stiff competition for his signature in the summer.
