The transfer window has already brought some pain for Blackburn Rovers fans, and with a month to go until it closes again, there will be plenty of fear that their outgoings may not yet be done.

Already, they’ve lost the likes of Danny Batth, Tyrhys Dolan and Callum Brittain, all of whom were crucial last season.

There have been exciting additions with players like Sidnei Tavares and Axel Henriksson arriving at Ewood Park, but just as important as bringing new players in will be keeping hold of their incumbents.

With that in mind, we asked our Blackburn fan pundit, Simon Middlehurst, what his biggest transfer fear is heading into the last month of the window.

Sondre Tronstad and Lewis Travis named as Blackburn must-holds

Speaking to Football League World, Simon said: “The biggest fear, the worst fear for the club, would probably be the same as any of the club, and that’s losing more key players, following on from the back of last season.

“Obviously, Tyrhys Dolan left on a free, Danny Batth left on a free, and we've just sold Callum Brittain.

“I think going forward, obviously, Makhtar Gueye, he's another player who has been rumoured to have other clubs interested in him.

“The biggest worry now is if we lost Sondre Tronstad and Lewis Travis. Obviously, they're two key players, two big characters in the club and in the squad.

“Two senior players as well, you know, that midfield partnership that they've formed has been really crucial to Blackburn the last couple of years.

“So that would be my biggest fear, my worst fear, is that by the time the transfer window closes, we'll lose them two.”

Travis must be Blackburn’s biggest concern and focus

It’s difficult to overstate how important Travis is to Blackburn; his contract must take priority for the club this summer.

He made 37 starts in the Championship last season for Rovers, and as club captain, will be a vital voice in the dressing room and on the pitch.

Not only that, he registered an average of 2.7 tackles per 90 minutes in the league last season, and had a pass success rate of 85 per cent, showing how crucial he is in acting as a midfield enforcer and keeping hold of possession in the centre of the park.

It is little wonder that, as exclusively revealed by Football League World last month, both Derby County and Wrexham are interested in taking the 27-year-old.

Blackburn must avoid that eventuality, not only because losing their captain to two recently promoted division rivals – newly so, in the Red Dragons’ case – would send a poor message regarding the ambition of the club and the vision they’re selling, but also due to the financials that are likely to be involved.

Travis, like midfield partner Tronstrad, has entered the final year of his current deal, and the former told the Lancashire Telegraph back in March that he’d like to stay but that there had been no contract talks to that point.

With just 12 months left on that deal, it means it would be hard for Rovers to get anything like Travis’s full value, so not only would they lose a crucial player, it also wouldn’t be much of a win in the accounts department either.

With the player already having expressed an interest in extending his stay in recent months, getting Travis tied down to a new deal must be at the top of Blackburn’s to-do list.
