Arsenal have seen a bid rejected by Blackburn Rovers for their teenage prospect
Blackburn Rovers have rejected a £1 million bid from Arsenal for young attacker Igor Tyjon, who has been of interest to Mikel Arteta's side for some time.
Valerien Ismael’s side finished seventh in the Championship last term, just two points shy of the play-offs in what proved a disrupted campaign at Ewood Park amid John Eustace's mid-season switch to Derby County.
Blackburn picked up under Ismael following a slow start and will be looking to keep that momentum heading into next season, having already added Sidnei Tavares and Dion De Neve to their ranks.
The East Lancashire outfit will intend on continuing to bolster the squad while retaining prized immediate and long-term assets - of which Tyjon is one.
The Gunners are thought to have held an interest in Tyjon for an extended period of time now, but Rovers have rejected their opening bid.
According to Alan Nixon via Patreon, Arsenal offered a package worth £1 million plus extras for the 17-year-old.
However, Rovers have turned down that approach and want more money for the exciting prospect.
Tyjon made two appearances for Blackburn’s first team last season and has scored seven goals in 19 games for their academy side.
The teenager has also played eight times for the England U17 outfit, netting twice for the Three Lions.
Rovers want to keep Tyjon at the club and tie him down to a professional deal, however the youngster is still keeping his options open.
Ismael would have to be prepared to play the 17-year-old consistently if he were to remain at Ewood Park, with game time Tyjon’ priority in this moment.
When clubs such as Arsenal start to make approaches for your services, it can be understandably hard for a young player to turn them down.
Contracted to one of the biggest sides in England, moving to London and securing more money are all motivations that appeal massively to teenage prospects.
However, Tyjon may progress his career further by staying at Ewood Park.
If Ismael does begin to play the teenager consistently, he would naturally acclimatise to a high level of professional football at a tender age, which could prove to be vital experience in the long term.
Examples such as Adam Wharton in recent history have shown what staying at Rovers during the early stages of your development can do, with the 21-year-old now an FA Cup winner and England international with Crystal Palace.
Therefore, it could prove worth Tyjon’s while to resist the temptation provided by Arsenal and commit his future to Blackburn Rovers.
