It is no surprise that Barcelona’s redemption season coincided with Pedri Gonzalez rediscovering his best version and fitness after a couple of horrific injury-riddled years at the club.
Last season, Pedri was at the peak of his fitness and grew from strength to strength as the season passed.
Being the only Barcelona midfielder to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or shows his importance on the field for Hansi Flick’s side.
The Canary Islander, needless to say, will hope to keep the same record going this season and kicked the campaign off with a great display against Mallorca last weekend. All signs point to him retaining his place in the team ahead of the game against Levante.
Speaking to MARCA, former Spain and Mallorca star Vicente Engonga commented on the Barcelona maestro and gave his two cents on the talent he possessed.
Needless to say, he only had words of praise for the midfield star and compared him to one of the nation’s all-time greats in the position.

“Pedri is the best player I have seen in a long time. He’s like Iniesta, but better. I see a reflection of Iniesta with even more skills,” he said, showering massive praise on Pedri.
Going one step ahead, Engonga even claimed that the Barcelona sensation was even better than the legend he is being compared to.
“As for the way he plays today, I see Pedri as better than Iniesta.”
While it is unfair to compare Pedri to a legend like Iniesta, who won everything there is to win and dominated global football was close to two decades, it does go to show the impact Pedri has every time he is on the field.
If the player can stay fit and keep growing as he is, there is no doubt that he can etch his name in history just as his idol did for Barcelona.
After all, it is clear that he is one of, if not the most important piece, for the Catalans’ dynamics.
