FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit has given his verdict on the supporters' relationship with Prince Abdullah

Sheffield United have made a positive start to the new Championship season as they eye promotion straight back to the Premier League.

It’s been a turbulent period for the Blades off the pitch, with question marks surrounding the ownership situation.

But Chris Wilder’s side are in the mix for a return to the top flight at this early stage of the campaign.

It was previously reported by The Star that approval from the EFL for a takeover was close, but there are now fears that the deal could collapse.

Prince Abdullah has been with Sheffield United since 2013, becoming a majority shareholder in the club in 2018.

Sheffield United’s ownership relationship claim made

When asked about the relationship between the owner and the club, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, of Blades Ramble, claimed that he has ultimately been the best owner the Yorkshire outfit have had.

While he believes that the current majority of fans appreciate what he’s done for the club, he also understands why a minority might be frustrated by the current uncertainty behind the scenes.

“I think the majority of fans appreciate Prince Abdullah, and everything that he’s trying to do,” Jimmy told Football League World.

“And I think the overall majority view is that he does what’s best for the club, and the only issue being he hasn’t got enough money to take us forward, which he’s been quite open about.

“And that’s the reason he’s seeking further investment, or a full takeover.

“I think frustration comes into some fans, and the minority can be quite vocal about the communication from the club, and I understand that.

“What do we really expect the club to say about failed takeover bids? If we blame an incoming party, does that damage our prospects of further deals? If we blame the EFL, does that damage our relationship with the EFL? It’s very difficult to tread that line.

“But I think overall, and certainly when we look back on Prince Adbullah’s reign, in my opinion he’s been the best owner we have ever had.”

Sheffield United’s promotion ambition

Sheffield United will be aiming for a place back in the Premier League, having competed in the top flight last year.

It was an underwhelming season in the first division, coming rock bottom with only 16 points to show for it.

Wilder’s side have also been docked two points this season by the EFL, which will hurt their chances of promotion.

However, performances so far this term have been promising, indicating a top two challenge is on the cards.

Sheffield United ownership situation can’t drag on like this

While supporters may ultimately look back on Prince Abdullah’s time at the club fondly, his exit has been poorly managed.

Whether he stays on as a minority investor, or walks away entirely, it’s clear he is no longer the man to see the club forward.

Results on the pitch haven’t been impacted too badly just yet, but the longer the takeover situation drags on the worse it could become for the team.

The sooner a resolution can be found the better for everyone involved.
