10. Andy Robertson

  1. GW5 fixture: Bournemouth (H)
  2. Predicted points: 5.4

Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson is the only defender to make the top 10 ahead of Gameweek 5, as Bournemouth visit Anfield. The Reds lead the way with three clean sheets this season and just one goal conceded from seven big chances allowed on their goal.

Bournemouth failed to score in their last game, while Robertson has had two shots on target, including one big chance. He’s on some Liverpool corners, creating six chances this season.

9. Chris Wood

  1. GW5 fixture: Brighton (A)
  2. Predicted points: 5.5

Nottingham Forest provided the shock of last weekend, beating Liverpool at Anfield to remain unbeaten this season. It’s another tough test for them next, with a trip to Brighton, a side who have conceded just two goals in this campaign.

Chris Wood has made a promising start to the campaign, with two goals scored from five big chances, the best record of the budget strikers. It’s been encouraging to see him start every single game and we are now sure that he’s first choice.

8. Dominic Solanke

  1. GW5 fixture: Brentford (H)
  2. Predicted points: 5.6

Tottenham newcomer Dominic Solanke returned to the squad against Arsenal after missing their previous two games with an injury. He has the potential to be a gem this season priced at £7.5 million as Tottenham’s main striker.

Solanke is one of two Tottenham attackers to make this top 10, registering two shots in the box last gameweek. He is still waiting for his first Tottenham goal, with a home game against Brentford a great opportunity. The Bees are without a clean sheet in this campaign.

7. Kevin De Bruyne

  1. GW5 fixture: Arsenal (H)
  2. Predicted points: 5.6

The visit of Arsenal isn’t significant enough to reduce the AI’s perception of Kevin De Bruyne’s output, with solid underlying numbers to date. The Belgian sits second for chances created this season with 16, and has been unlucky to come away with just one assist from three big chances created.

He has the goal threat too, with 14 shots and a heavy involvement in Man City’s set pieces. Opponents Arsenal have only conceded one goal so far this season though.

6. Ollie Watkins

  1. GW5 fixture: Wolves (H)
  2. Predicted points: 6.2

It was a delight to see Ollie Watkins back in significant minutes for Aston Villa last weekend and significantly back on the scoresheet, scoring a brace from six shots and four big chances on goal. That’s the clinical finishing we expect from him, following 37 goal involvements in 27 appearances last season.

The great fixtures continue for Aston Villa, with the visit of Wolves next in this big local rivalry, with their opponents conceding 11 goals in their opening four games.

5. Son Heung-min

  1. GW5 fixture: Brentford (H)
  2. Predicted points: 6.3

Son Heung-min joins Solanke in the Tottenham contingent in this top 10 ahead of the visit of Brentford. It’s been a quiet start to the season for him, with just two goals in four games, which both came against Everton in Gameweek 2. Crucially that was one of the games Solanke missed through injury.

We are still analysing Son’s role for this season coming in from the left and it’s unclear whether he remains first choice on penalties with Solanke also in the picture.

4. Cole Palmer

  1. GW5 fixture: West Ham (A)
  2. Predicted points: 6.3

Cole Palmer retained his place in the Chelsea lineup for Gameweek 4 despite missing England duty over the international break due to a tightness in his groin. He failed to deliver an attacking return in the win against Bournemouth but remains among the top performers for the campaign with five goal involvements. Palmer sits second for big chances created with four and we should assume he remains on penalties for Chelsea.

3. Eberechi Eze

  1. GW5 fixture: Man Utd (H)
  2. Predicted points: 6.6

Eberechi Eze remains a favourite of the AI, despite producing just one attacking return so far this season. Uncertainty regarding whether he will take Crystal Palace’s next penalty casts doubt on his overall output, but he is their talisman and on all other set pieces.

Eze sits third for shots this season with 18 and he’s also created eight chances. Expect a big performance from him against Manchester United, a club he continues to be linked with for a future move.

2. Erling Haaland

  1. GW5 fixture: Arsenal (H)
  2. Predicted points: 7.3

It’s not very often that we see Erling Haaland knocked off top spot when it comes to the AI ratings. But the visit of Arsenal is enough to dampen the potential for his output, despite this game coming at the Etihad. Don’t overlook him for the captaincy though, having scored nine of Man City’s 11 goals this campaign – he’s outscored every other Premier League team this season. Of course Haaland’s also top for shots in the box, shots on target and big chances.

1. Mohamed Salah

  1. GW5 fixture: Bournemouth (H)
  2. Predicted points: 8.2

Mohamed Salah leads the AI rankings as the best captain pick for FPL Gameweek 5 when Bournemouth visit Anfield. Salah has had one of his best starts to a Premier League season which is encouraging in the Arne Slot era, producing double-digit hauls in three of his four games.

Liverpool have a great record against Bournemouth, with Salah producing nine goals and one assist in nine Premier League appearances against them.
