Chelsea news: Chelsea’s season have once again been a collection of disjointed moments, questionable decisions and inconsistent performances. With an inflated squad and a sporting project that remains unconsolidated, the London club finds itself at a point where it must make important decisions.
Joao Félix, one of the most high-profile names to pass through Stamford Bridge, failed to justify the investment or the enthusiasm generated by his return. His spell in Milan did not improve the outlook either. In this context, the sporting management is already analysing departures to lighten the wage bill and create space for new signings that do fit in with the playing style.
According to information obtained by CaughtOffside, Benfica have intensified efforts to repatriate Joao Félix, who considers the Lisbon club his preferred destination for this summer. Chelsea want to get rid of the player permanently, while Benfica are opting for a loan.

The disagreement lies on that point, although the player’s wishes seem clear: he wants to return to the place where his football career took off. Flamengo and teams from Saudi Arabia have shown interest, but Félix prefers to stay in Europe. Time is running out and talks continue as both sides weigh their options.
Chelsea should accept the departure of the Portuguese striker, even if it is on loan with a mandatory purchase option. The player does not fit in with the club’s current rhythm or system. His second spell in London confirmed that he is unable to establish himself in an environment where immediate impact is required.
Keeping the Portugal international means prolonging a stagnant situation that takes up financial space and blocks opportunities for more suitable profiles. Loaning the attacker to Benfica could even facilitate future negotiations with the Portuguese club for other emerging talents.
Furthermore, allowing him to reconnect with a familiar environment could increase his value and open new doors in the market. However, there is another angle that deserves attention. What if Chelsea takes advantage of Félix’s preference for Europe to offer him to other clubs with the financial capacity to buy?
It could negotiate with clubs in La Liga or Serie A and obtain a transfer that meets their financial conditions. This would require moving quickly, but in such a crucial summer, such manoeuvres could make the difference between another frustrating season and a real rebuild.
