Chelsea’s busy summer is reaching its most busy stage.

The next couple of weeks are going to see a lot of deals done, both in and out. Today we had the confirmation of Mike Penders’ move to Strasbourg on loan, and it looks like that will soon be followed by Jorrel Hato’s permanent move from Ajax to Stamford Bridge.

Most sources have that one as pretty close to done – it could be announced by the end of this week if everything continues to go smoothly.

Chelsea prepare “formal offer” after informal talks produce “positive” results

Ben Jacobs’ update on Chelsea’s interest in Xavi Simons.

Coming down the pipeline after the Hato deal seems to be a move for his countryman Xavi Simons.

The winger has risen to the top of our target list on the wing in the last couple of weeks, and we now have an update from Ben Jacobs about his status.

Jacobs says that Chelsea are “preparing a formal offer” for the winger, having hammered out the broad outline of the deal with RB Leipzig.

The “positive talks” we’ve had with the German club should mean that the formal offer shouldn’t require too much tweaking, and could be accepted pretty quickly. We would imagine talks with Simons’ camp over personal terms are ongoing, if not already agreed.

Once Simons and Hato are signed up, we’re almost done for the summer. There are still plenty of sales to be completed before September, but in terms of building the first team squad, it should almost be done. There’s still always the possibility of some opportunistic bids, but by and large we would imagine the sporting directors will consider the squad complete once the Dutch pair are added.
