Real Madrid are set to kick off their new UEFA Champions League campaign with a home match against Bundesliga side Stuttgart at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

This will be an intriguing encounter, especially given that Stuttgart, who finished as runners-up in last season’s Bundesliga, have not competed in Europe’s top-tier competition since 2010.

Adding to the excitement is the fact that Stuttgart have never faced the reigning European champions, making this match a historic occasion for them.

Stuttgart come into the game riding high after a morale-boosting 3-1 victory away to Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend.

That win will undoubtedly give them confidence ahead of their daunting trip to the Santiago Bernabeu, where Real Madrid are currently enjoying an impressive 13-game unbeaten streak.

The match, Real Madrid’s first in the new format of the Champions League, offers plenty of excitement, and on that note, let’s take a closer look at how Carlo Ancelotti’s men might line up against Stuttgart on Tuesday.

Defence

Thibaut Courtois will undoubtedly continue as the first-choice goalkeeper for Real Madrid. The Belgian shot-stopper has been a reliable figure between the posts and is expected to play a pivotal role in keeping Stuttgart at bay.

In defence, we could see a few changes. Lucas Vazquez could start as the right-back, filling in for Dani Carvajal, who might be shifted to the centre-back position alongside Antonio Rudiger with Eder Militao’s fitness under some doubt after he did not train on Monday.

On the left side of the defence, Ferland Mendy is likely to retain his spot. His defensive abilities make him a crucial figure in nullifying any threat Stuttgart may pose from the flank.

Midfield

Ancelotti confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham would be available for this crucial fixture.

Their inclusion in the matchday squad is a big boost for Madrid. Tchouameni is expected to play a pivotal role as the midfield anchor, breaking up Stuttgart’s play and distributing the ball efficiently.

Bellingham, with his energy and vision, will likely be given more freedom to drive forward and link up with the attackers. His ability to cover ground and contribute both defensively and offensively makes him a key player for Madrid.

Completing the midfield trio will likely be Federico Valverde, who has been a consistent performer. His ability to combine defensive duties with forward runs will give Madrid an extra edge.

Attack

With Brahim Diaz unavailable due to injury, Ancelotti will likely revert to his familiar attacking trio. On the right wing, Rodrygo is expected to start. The Brazilian is known for his dribbling skills and quick movements, making him a constant threat to Stuttgart’s defence.

On the opposite flank, Vinicius Jr. will take his rightful place. He was on target this past weekend and will be looking to continue his strong performances in the Champions League.

In the central attacking role, all eyes will be on Kylian Mbappe, who is set to make his Champions League debut for Real Madrid and will be keen to make an instant impact.

With his pace, skill, and clinical finishing, Mbappe will be a constant menace to Stuttgart’s defence.

In Arda Guler, Luka Modric, and Endrick, Ancelotti has options that can come in and change the game if needed.
