Former Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is plotting a move to take Luca Koleosho to Bayern Munich
Having swapped Burnley for Bayern Munich in the summer, former Clarets chief Vincent Kompany is reportedly planning to raid his former employers for Luca Koleosho.
Burnley's teenage sensation was the subject of strong interest from Wolves over the summer, while Newcastle United are also credited with an interest in the high-flying wide man.
It was Kompany himself who brought Koleosho to Turf Moor back in the summer of 2023, with the Clarets paying a reported £2.6m fee to secure the services of the former Espanyol winger.
They look set to make a healthy profit on the prized asset, for whom they quoted £40m in the summer when Wolves came knocking.
It's unlikely they'll relent on that price tag in January, particularly in the midst of a promotion push, with Burnley then being a man down in attack, when they currently can't afford to be.
The 19-year-old signed a new five-year deal at Burnley back in September, so Bayern will undoubtedly need deep pockets if they're to secure Koleosho's services.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Koleosho is on Bayern's list of prospective targets for next summer.
The 20-year-old is said to have been discussed and analysed internally at the Bundesliga club.
Kompany knows the winger well and holds him in high regard so it is said to be "one to watch" even if it's still at "an early stage".
In an otherwise disastrous season with few positives, Koleosho was a shining light for Burnley last season, with his performances at the start of the season marking him out as one of thier best early-season performers.
Having been signed for such a nominal fee, many expected he would simply be a squad player at Turf Moor, so to see him lining up against Manchester City on opening day was something of a surprise.
He certainly vindicated his selection, not just in that game, but all the way up until December, when his electric wing play got people off their seats despite the results not going as planned.
His season was cruelly curtailed in December though, when he suffered a nasty knee injury against Wolves which saw him miss the rest of the campaign, but after tasting football at the top level, Burnley fans must surely be fearful that he wants that on a regular basis.
Koleosho announced his Burnley return against Luton on the opening day of this season, producing great performances that reminded Clarets fans exactly what they'd been missing, but it's fair to say his season hasn't gone to plan since.
He's now coming under intense scrutiny from Burnley fans, who have grown expectant that his performance level should always be at the top level.
At just 19 years of age, it's fair to say that Koleosho is still a work in progress for Burnley, but he's shown in patches that he can be a danger in this league.
A stunning solo goal against Leeds earlier this term showcased the potential he has and is undoubtedly the player Bayern Munich hope they'll be getting, but a string of poor performances lately would be enough to have the German giants second-guessing themselves.
Burnley would've wanted more from Koleosho this season, who has at times flattered to deceive, with his head down and run mentality often leading him down blind alleys, where last season it felt like no one could take the ball off him.
There's certainly a player in there somewhere, and at just 19, Bayern would have plenty of time to develop him into the player they hope he'd be.
It would be a stunning show of faith from Kompany to take the teenage prodigy to the biggest club in Germany, but if he's to do so, Burnley will feel it will need a club-record fee to take him if their £40m summer price tag is anything to go by.
