While Real Madrid insist that their squad is closed for the ongoing season, that does not stop players from being linked with a move to the club.

After all, every player, at one point or another, dreams of playing for Los Blancos and has the club up on their list of preferred destinations.

Now, according to reports from Florian Plettenberg, the latest player to be linked with the Spanish capital is Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka.

Uncertain future

The past few weeks have been rough on the German midfielder and his entourage, for he has not received much favour from the new manager Vincent Kompany.

Earlier this week, he was even left out of the Bavarians’ squad against Ulm in DFB Pokal, further fuelling exit links. In fact, Bayern Munich were said to be ‘pushing the player out.’

As relayed by the German journalist now, Goretzka is likely to continue in Bavaria for the upcoming season despite not being well placed on the manager’s pecking order.

Should he choose to leave, however, he prefers Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool as his primary choices for the MLS does not appeal much to him.

While Goretzka would be a fine addition to any squad in the world, Carlo Ancelotti would rather avoid the headache that comes with signing a new midfielder.

The competition for a place in the middle of the park is cutthroat already and there is clearly no space for another body.

Last season, Goretzka made 30 appearances and 25 starts for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in the process.

He only played 45 of the 180 minutes the Germans played against Real Madrid, completing 95% of his passes and having one shot blocked in the process.
