Barcelona might find themselves in a promising position to strengthen their midfield, as Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka has reportedly expressed interest in a move to the Catalan giants.

According to a recent report by Florian Plettenberg, Goretzka is open to signing for Barcelona, Real Madrid, or Liverpool if he decides to leave Bayern Munich.

The situation with Goretzka has become increasingly complex under the management of Bayern’s new head coach, Vincent Kompany.

Reports suggest that Goretzka has fallen out of favour with Kompany, leading to speculation that the German international might not be in Bayern’s future plans.

It appears that Goretzka’s position in the squad is under threat, with Bayern Munich not counting on him as a key player for the upcoming season.

Lot of competition at Bayern

Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, recently addressed the matter, shedding light on Goretzka’s current status within the team.

He acknowledged Goretzka’s long tenure at the club and his previous successes but was clear about the intense competition for places in the midfield.

“Leon has been at Bayern for a very, very long time. He was very successful and is a great player. We spoke to him and made it clear to him that there’s a lot of competition in his position.

“We are very well equipped there. Leon knows that. And that’s why the situation is like this at the moment, and why he’s not in the squad today,” he explained as quoted by GOAL.

He also mentioned that, as of now, there have been no official offers for Goretzka. “Not at the moment [there haven’t been any offers]. But of course, there are some interested parties for Goretzka because he’s simply a very, very good player.”

Lots of ifs and buts

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at Bayern, Plettenberg suggests that Goretzka is likely to remain with the German champions.

The midfielder is reportedly relying on the words of Bayern Munich’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, who stated that everyone deserves a second chance, hinting that Goretzka might still have a future at the club.

While there has been some interest from Major League Soccer, Goretzka does not seem inclined to move to the United States. Instead, his focus appears to be on staying in Europe, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Liverpool among the clubs he is considering.

These clubs represent the kind of top-level football Goretzka is keen to continue playing, and any move would likely see him remain in one of Europe’s elite leagues.
