Bayern Munich and Liverpool are reportedly in “advanced talks” over a deal for Luis Diaz in the summer transfer window.
The Colombia international is keen to leave Anfield this summer and has informed the club as such, but they have been reluctant to sell one of their key players.
Barcelona had made an approach to sign Diaz, but deemed him too expensive so they moved on Marcus Rashford instead. That has left Bayern as the primary suitors for his signature.
The German giants had already seen an offer in the region of £58.5m (€67m) turned down by the Reds, but their persistence may yet pay off.
According to Sky Sports News, they have returned to the negotiating table with a second bid of around £69m (€80m). The reports claims that the “final details are being discussed now over the total package”.
Liverpool were “unwilling” to sell Diaz, but his stance on a move left the club “with little option but to discuss a potential deal”.
The wide forward signed a five-and-a-half year contract with Liverpool in January 2022, leaving FC Porto for a £37.5m (€42.9m) transfer fee. He has two years left to run on his current deal.
Arne Slot confirmed that Diaz was left out of Saturday’s pre-season friendly defeat to AC Milan due to the speculation surrounding his future.
“There’s a lot of rumours around him lately and I cannot go into that,” the manager told LFC TV. “He’s training well with us but we have decided, for now, not to play him yet.
“I’m used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis. Like I said, Lucho is training really well and we’ve decided that he’s not playing at the moment in the games. I cannot comment much more about that.”
