Despite enjoying a solid defensive record in the Bundesliga this season, Bayern Munich are open to adding defenders to the squad in the summer. The Bavarian club will have to facilitate at least one significant departure to sign a new center-back.

Kim Min-jae is a prime candidate for sale at Bayern in the central defense. The South Korean defender's future has been subject to intense speculation over the last few weeks. His performances have dipped in the second half of the season, which has further fuelled rumours linking him away from Bayern in the summer transfer window.

According to SportBild’s Christian Falk (via iMiaSanMia), Kim Min-jae is weighing up a move to Saudi Arabia if he ends up leaving Bayern in the summer transfer window. Die Roten will not stand in his way if a good offer arrives for him.

Juventus have reportedly shown interest in Kim Min-jae over the last few weeks. Inter Milan had shown interest in the South Korean defender last summer, but he was determined to stay in Munich and prove himself after a mixed debut campaign.

Kim Min-jae had enjoyed a terrific first half of this season under Vincent Kompany. However, the South Korean defender had to play with an Achilles injury, which eventually took a toll on his performances during the Ruckrunde. Over the last two seasons, Kim Min-jae has not been able to deliver consistent performances over a long stretch, forcing Bayern to consider a separation in the summer.

Bayern may have to sign two central defenders in the summer

Bayern may end up signing two center-backs in the summer since Eric Dier has already decided to leave Munich to join Monaco at the end of the season. The English defender was in talks with the Bavarian club over a new deal, but Monaco moved quickly and offered a deal that gave him assurances over playing time.

Die Roten are already exploring a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah. The German international is leaving Leverkusen on a free transfer at the end of the season. Barcelona are leading the race to sign Tah, but Bayern are not giving up just yet.

The record Bundesliga champions have also registered interest in Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen. Any move for the Spanish defender will depend on the departure of Kim Min-jae.

Meanwhile, Bayern remain in contract talks with Dayot Upamecano. The French center-back has excelled under Vincent Kompany. Josip Stanisic will also get considerable game time in central defense next season.
