Bayern Munich's 125th anniversary celebrations were dampened by a spirited Bochum side who beat the record Champions at their own backyard. This was a historic win for the visitors -- their first at Bayern's home turf since 1991.
Inspired by the stunning choreo from the packed house in the Allianz Arena, Bayern started the game on the front foot. Despite the heavily rotated line-up, they played through Bochum with relative ease and scored twice in 28 minutes, both courtesy of Raphael Guerreiro.
Things got tricky for Die Roten when Bochum pulled one back and, to make matters worse, a few minutes later, João Palhinha got sent off for an ankle crunching challenge on Giorgos Masouras. With the advantage of an extra man, Bochum looked much more threatening in the second half. Ibrahima Sissoko's towering header equalized the score-line in the 51st minute.
Kompany was forced to introduce big guns Kane, Olise, and Musiala in hopes of getting the lead back, but it never materialized for the Bavarians. Bochum scored their third through Matúš Bero and proceeded to shut their defence and see out the lead at the Allianz Arena. It's a massive three points for the relegation-battling side; meanwhile, for Bayern, it's not the end of the world as Bayer Leverkusen lost their respective fixture as well. The gap between the two teams remains 8 points.
Let's take a look at the player ratings from the home team.
Jonas Urbig - 6.5/10
A Bundesliga debut to forget for the youngster although he wasn't at fault for any of the three goals. Looked sharp with his distribution and made a crucial save in the closing minutes of the game to prevent Bochum's fourth.
Sacha Boey - 5/10
Sacha Boey got minutes after a long time and it reflected in his performance. Rusty, indecisive, and overall, really poor.
Eric Dier - 5.5/10
Couldn't strike up any chemistry with first-time centre-back partner Josip Stanišić. Could have easily cleared the ball and prevented Bochum's third goal.
